Last weekend, Heather and I went to Savannah. More to come once we get the pictures developed :-)

I just finished reading a great book called Weather Flying by Robert Buck. I used some of my new found knowledge on the trip back from Savannah. I watched the weather charts and saw that a cold front was coming through. I called flight service the night before and asked for estimates of when the front would pass. The briefer gave me the info and also the forecasts, which did not mention any thunderstorms for the next day. I was skeptical of the forecast, having read about lines of thunderstorms preceding cold fronts. This was, after all, the same system that produced deadly tornadoes in the Midwest a few days before. So, I moved my departure time up a few hours to get out before the front came through. Then, from the comfort of my own home, I watched on radar as big red blobs gobbled up my route of flight.

Reading this book by no means makes me a weather expert, but it did teach an important lesson about finding out what's behind the forecast and not simply accepting it at face value.

Two headlines for the same story:

Headline #1: A Saudi official said today that 29 people, including seven Americans, were killed in a series of explosions in the Saudi capital.

Headline #2: Twenty-nine people, including nine terrorist suspects, were killed in suicide bombings in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, the Saudi Information Ministry said today.

One was CNN, one was the New York Times. Guess which one was CNN?
