Good Grief
An impromptu review of "A Charlie Brown Valentine".
This weekend I finally got around to watching "A Charlie Brown Valentine". At first, I was amazed at how clean the flim looked and also curious why I didn't seem to remember this one at all. So, I looked at the copyright date and found that it was 2002. I thought it was interesting that this is being released two years after Schultz' death. Either it was in production a long time, or it's like all of the Sci-Fi shows Gene Roddenberry has released decades after his death.
Anyway, it was fairly timeless, right down to the rotary phone Charlie Brown dials. For some reason, though Marci no longer calls Peppermint Patty "sir". Perhaps they saw that episode of Family Guy? The only indication that it's modern at all is Charlie Brown's reference to bungie jumping. There was one scene where some bullies were beating up the red headed girl, but in true Peanuts taste, they didn't show it, rather you see Charlie Brown and Linus talking about it.
Unfortunately, it was pretty boring. I seem to remember the Thanksgiving special and The Great Pumpkin being a lot more interesting than this. I found the Valentine's Day dance scene slightly humorous because of the music. Charlie Brown walks in and a funky version of "Linus and Lucy" featuring drums and a wah-wah guitar starts playing. If the Peanuts ever made porn, that's what the music would sound like. But alas, Charlie doesn't score.
Well, I don't think I need to conclude with a thumbs up or down rating. My readers are intelligent enough to come to their own conclusions.
